The Examining Authority from the Planning Inspectorate has issued its recommendation to the Secretary of State. A decision will be published on or before 2 August 2013. Please note that the Examining Authority's recommendation will also be made available at that point.

EXAMINATION PERIOD FOR PLANNING APPLICATION COMPLETE
RES has today received notification that the examination period relating to the planning application for North Blyth Biomass Power Station has ended.
The Planning Inspectorate, who examined the application, will make a recommendation to the Secretary of State for whether or not to grant consent within the next 3 months. The Secretary of State will then have 3 months within which to reach a decision.
RES would like to thank all those who have participated in the planning process and will continue to keep you updated.

The latest Rule 13 letter details the date for the next Specific Issue Hearing, this time focusing on the Draft Development Consent Order and Deemed Marine Licence, as Wednesday 9 January 2013.

RULE 8 LETTER PUBLISHED BY PINS
Examination of the application for the proposed North Blyth Biomass Power Station has started. Details of the first round of the examination and the time timetable can be seen in the Rule 8 letter which was recently published by PINS.

PINS PUBLISH RULE 6 LETTER
The Planning Inspectorate (PINS) have published their Rule 6 letter relating to the proposed North Blyth Biomass Power Station. This letter gives the date for the Preliminary Meeting (2 August 2012) and proposed timetable for the examination. The full letter can be viewed on the PINS website:

RES PUBLICISE PLANNING NOTICE AS PLANNING APPLICATION IS ACCEPTED FOR REVIEW BY THE PLANNING INSPECTORATE
Following the acceptance by the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) of RES's formal application for a Development Consent Order (DCO), please find the relevant Section 56 planning notice here for your information.
This notice indicates the further period of consultation whereby responses are sent to the Planning Inspectorate for their consideration. In order to submit a response in relation to the Project, you must register as an Interested Party. The relevant form can be completed online or obtained from the Planning Inspectorate by telephoning 0303 444 5000. Responses should be sent to the Planning Inspectorate (National Infrastructure Directorate), Temple Quay House, Temple Quay, Bristol, BS1 6PN. The Planning Inspectorate reference for the Project should be quoted in any correspondence, which is EN010016.
Any representation or response must be received by the Planning Inspectorate by 1 June 2012. Responses and other representations will be made public.
PINs will now examine the application and make a recommendation to the Secretary of State whether to grant consent. The examination period can take up to 9 months.

APPLICATION FOR DEVELOPMENT CONSENT ORDER ACCEPTED BY THE PLANNING INSPECTORATE
Following submission in March, the Planning Inspectorate has now confirmed formal acceptance of the submitted planning application and proposal to build a £250 million renewable energy power station at Battleship Wharf in the Port of Blyth.
RES Project Manager Chris Lawson said:
"Acceptance of our application is a major milestone and we are looking forward to participating in the next phase of consultation and providing any further information that the Planning Inspectorate may require. There is still some way to go before our plans can become a reality, but we have been greatly encouraged by the support we have received so far from local people and organisations who can see the opportunities that the proposed development represents.
"We firmly believe that the Blyth Estuary area has the facilities, the support services and the skills to become a vibrant centre for renewable energy generation projects like ours. It's a very exciting proposition which Northumberland County Council and the Port of Blyth, together with other organisations in the region, are working very hard towards. If all goes well, we hope that North Blyth biomass power station will become an integral part of the regeneration of the area, helping to create new jobs and attracting other employers to invest here as well."

PLANS FOR NORTH BLYTH POWER STATION SUBMITTED
RES has submitted a formal application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC). There now follows a period of 28 days, during which the IPC will consider the planning and consultation documents. If they are satisfied that everything is in order, they will formally accept the application.

SITE STUDIES REVEAL THAT NORTH BLYTH BIOMASS POWER STATION WILL BE A POSITIVE ASSET TO THE AREA
The benefits of the biomass power station being proposed at Battleship Wharf in the Port of Blyth will far outweigh any adverse impacts, according to the results that are emerging from detailed studies about the project. RES, the renewable energy company behind the proposal, is making the initial results of the studies available to stakeholders and the public this week.

POSITIVE FEEDBACK FROM RESIDENTS' VISIT TO A WORKING BIOMASS POWER STATION
On Tuesday 16 August, 13 councillors and residents from North Blyth, Cambois and Blyth Town took the opportunity to go and see a biomass power station in action.
RES organised the visit to Stevens Croft Biomass Power Station, Lockerbie, so that residents and representatives of the local community near North Blyth - where RES is proposing to build a similar facility - could see a working biomass power station for themselves.
The trip enabled everyone to ask an independent third party about biomass power generation. It also allowed them to see and hear any likely impacts from the operations.
The feedback RES has received following the visit has been very positive, with attendees remarking that the site was 'very clean and tidy', that operations were 'not noisy at all' and that there were no unpleasant smells.
RES is currently compiling the results of the extensive public consultation it has carried out throughout 2011 in relation to its proposal to build the North Blyth biomass power station. The Consultation Report, together with the company's application for a Development Consent Order, will be submitted to the Infrastructure Planning Commission for consideration next year.

RES SAYS COMMUNITY VIEWS ARE 'VITAL' IN SHAPING ITS PLANS
RES says that the feedback it has received from people in the Blyth Estuary is playing a vital role in shaping the final plans. Over the past 18 months, RES has been consulting widely with local residents, organisations and businesses. The company has participated in more than 40 face-to-face meetings and presentations and two sets of public exhibitions, held in Blyth, Cambois, and North Blyth.

FINAL DETAILS OF NORTH BLYTH BIOMASS PROJECT PROPOSAL TO GO ON SHOW
As part of the consultation process for the proposed North Blyth Biomass Power Station, renewable energy developer RES will be holding a second series of public exhibitions in the area during the last week of January. The exhibitions will unveil the final design for the power plant along with the results of RES's environmental and technical studies prior to submitting the planning application in the Spring.

RES has provided £5,000 of support to local community minibus charity WATBus. WATBus do a fantastic job supporting the local community. RES is pleased to be able to help their fundraising to buy a new minibus, which will help many people and groups to access and enjoy local amenities.

PUBLIC EXHIBITIONS SHOW LOCAL SUPPORT FOR THE NORTH BLYTH BIOMASS PROJECT
A series of public exhibitions recently took place for RES's proposed biomass power plant in North Blyth. The exhibitions were part of its pre-application community consultation activities for the 100MW renewable energy project and provided an opportunity for local people to find out more about the project, ask questions and voice any concerns. Feedback at the exhibitions showed a good level of support for the proposal from the local community.
